Tom Holland and Asa Butterfield are the final two actors that Sony and Marvel Studios have narrowed down to play Spider-Man.
[dropcap size=small]L[/dropcap]ooks like the list of actors to play Spidey in the upcoming Avengers and untitled Spider-Man movies just got a lot smaller. The list was already small and had names like Nat Wolff, Liam James, Timothee Chalamet, Tom Holland, and Asa Butterfield on it but now it is reportedly down to the final two.
Sources say that Sony and Marvel have narrowed it down to Tom Holland and Asa Butterfield to play the web-head. The early frontrunner was Nat Wolff but the studios want to cast a young actor to play the high school aged Spider-Man and Wolff is already 20-years-old.
Holland who is 18-years-old has acted in series like The Impossible, How I Live Now, and Wolf Hall now airing on PBS. Holland will star in Ron Howard’s period drama In the Heart of the Sea, and will co-star the thunder-god himself Thor. Holland might have a one up on Butterfield but we will have to wait and see who Sony and Marvel choose.
Spider-Man will make his MCU debut in Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War directed by the Russo brothers and staring Elizabeth Olsen, Scarlett Johansson, Chris Evans, and Robert Downey Jr. will be out May 6, 2016. Sony and Marvel’s Untitled Spider-Man reboot will be out July 28, 2017.
