Because apparently the universe sometimes does give you good things without a subscription tier named after a cryptid, HIDIVE — AMC Networks’ anime platform with the “please ruin my week” catalog — is going free on Comcast devices for one solid week. Yes, actually free. Not “free with login,” not “free with an ad-supported tier and 17 tracking cookies,” just free-free.
From October 20 to October 26, Xfinity customers can mainline premium simulcasts, English dubs, and that one show you keep seeing clipped on TikTok at 2 AM but never got around to actually watching. It’s all part of Comcast’s “Free This Week” stunt — a year-long rotation where they dangle premium services in front of you like a drug dealer’s first hit, only instead of fentanyl it’s 24 straight episodes of sword-wielding teenagers screaming about trauma.
HIDIVE just landed on Comcast platforms this year — first as an app in July, then as a linear channel in August — because AMC has decided to go all-in on anime now that prestige TV is just lawyers screaming. HIDIVE is already one of AMC’s fastest-growing services because anime is the only medium left where new IP is legally allowed to exist. And now Comcast is blasting it out for free on X1, Xumo Stream Box, Xumo TV, and Flex, plus select shows through the Xfinity Stream app.
AMC even sent out an executive to say words that translate to “anime prints money and we’d like more of it,” while Comcast happily plays anime Santa for the week.
