It turns out the rumors were, for once, true. British actor Alfred Molina is set to reprise his role as Dr. Otto Octavius for the upcoming untitled Spider-Man 3 film according to The Hollywood Reporter.
First appearing in Sam Raimi’s 2004 Spider-Man 2 as Doctor Octopus, Molina’s the eight-armed (legged?) villain quickly became a fan favorite as the brilliant, mad scientist. Rumors surrounding his involvement in Spider-Man 3 started after GWW reported the actor had been spotted on set.
With Jamie Foxx confirmed to be returning as Electro after playing the role in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, it definitely seems like Spider-Man 3 will follow a plot inspired by the Spider-Verse from the comics.
Director Jon Watts, who directed both Spider-Man: Homecoming and Spider-Man: Far From Home, will return and Benedict Cumberbatch is confirmed to appear as Doctor Strange in the film. Supporting actors like Zendaya, Marisa Tomei, Jacob Batalon and Tony Revolori will also be returning.
Spider-Man 3 swings into theaters 17 December, 2021.
