Will Smith was spotted in Toronto, Canada in his full Deadshot costume.
[dropcap size=small]I[/dropcap]f you were to take the comic book version of Floyd Lawton (Deadshot) and compare it with the movie version, you would have two vastly different people. The onset photos of director David Ayer’s Suicide Squad show a bald Will Smith wearing a long leather jacket, a black turtleneck, a gold cross and a stylish hat. This look is completely different from the more traditional scruffy character in the comic books.
There already are wild debates on Jared Leto’s Joker, how it looks compared to the comics and the popular Heath Ledger look. That being said, it wouldn’t be that big of a surprise if these photos do the same. Hardcore comic book fans will probably have some trouble accepting Will Smith’s version of Deadshot. Some might even say he looks fairly similar to his Captain James West character from the movie Wild Wild West.
Deadshot is one of the most famous and iconic villains in the DC universe. He is best known for his battles against Commissioner Gordon and Batman, who he sees as one of his greatest rivals. The comic book character Deadshot first appeared in the DC universe in the 1950’s Batman Volume 1, Number 59. Deadshot went on to become an extremely successful assassin for hire. Eventually Deadshot ended up joining the Suicide Squad, a group ideally suited to his interests: holding no regard for human life and killing people for fun.
It should be noted that when Deadshot was first introduced he wore a top coat and tails. His outfit eventually transitioned to a red jumpsuit and distinctive metal mask that he always wore on missions. Director Ayer’s idea of Deadshot in his full combat gear is different in this regard. He has his famous cybernetic eye and what looks to be a carbon fiber mask of sorts. You can see the possibility of Deadshot’s wrist mounted guns as well in the photo below. Whether or not Director David Ayer’s portrayal of Deadshot is correct will always be debated among comic book fans.
Suicide Squad will be in theaters August 5th, 2016.
