Warner Bros. and Tyrese Gibson Have Met Regarding Green Lantern Corps

At last months Comic-Con, Warner Bros. showed off the planned reboot with the title, Green Lantern Corps.

[toggler title=”TL;DR” ]With plenty of rumors surrounding the possible casting of Chris Pine and Tyrese Gibson as possible Green Lanterns, Tyrese has gone on record to confirm that he has met with Warner Bros. regarding the role of John Stewart. While he hasn’t confirmed that he has landed the role, he has said that Warner Bros. has expressed much interest in him.[/toggler]

[dropcap size=small]A[/dropcap]fter a fan posted a photo of fan-art portraying Tyrese Gibson as the Green Lantern to Instagram, the actor has committed himself to seeing if he can land the role himself. Warner Bros. has stated that the release for the film, now known as Green Lantern Corps thanks to last months Comic-Con, is 2020. That gives Warner Bros., and more importantly Tyrese Gibson, more time to become the next Green Lantern along side Chris Pine (supposedly).

In an interview with the Collider in Abu Dubai, Tyrese Gibson talked about how his involvement with idea of him playing John Stewart began.

“Well I was innocent from the beginning. I was at home eating a bowl of Lucky Charms in my drawers, my ugly feet were out, and I got about six direct messages on Instagram with photos of me as the Green Lantern. This particular fan who did this fan art said that there was a community of people that had been talking for like a month and a half about who they think would be the best Green Lantern and they all picked me. I said to them, ‘I took the oath, and I am going to commit myself to this process of seeing what’s possible.”

What started as a fan theory has quickly blossomed into Tyrese Gibson doing what he can to land the role. He went on to explain that he has sat down with the studio, possibly trying to convince them to give him the role.

“I’ve already had a couple of meetings at Warner Bros., so we’ll see what happens. I do believe that there needs to be more black superheroes out there, but that’s not even my motivation. I think I would be the best Green Lantern and based on my fans and supporters that spent around $6 billion in box office receipts, I feel like there’s a fanbase of fans out there waiting to see me put on this green suit and do my thing. So I would love to confirm something today but I can’t. We’ll just keep following up.”

Right now, we have Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Ezra Miller as the Flash, and Ray Fisher as Cyborg. While we don’t know what Zack Snyder, who is currently finishing up Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice, has planned for Justice League: Part One, it wouldn’t be too far-fetched to say that Tyrese Gibson’s incredibly large fan-base could certainly convince Zack Snyder to tell Warner Bros. to cast Tyrese Gibson as John Stewart. Having such a large fan-base would insure that Warner Bros. makes enough money to make the film worth it.
