‘The Fantastic Four’ Reboot: Doctor Doom Details Revealed

[dropcap size=small]Y[/dropcap]ou know how in Marvel comics, Doctor Doom – archenemy of the Fantastic Four – is the alter-ego of Victor von Doom and he’s the evil genius leader of the nation of Latveria? Yeah, well, none of that may be true in Josh Trank’s upcoming film adaption of the comic series.

Toby Kebbell, who will play Doctor Doom in the movie reboot, recently dropped some tidbits about the character’s revised back story in an interview for the Blu-ray/DVD release of Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. From what Kebbell revealed, it’s apparent that the filmmakers are taking a few more “creative liberties” than originally anticipated.

When asked what it was like playing Doctor Doom, Kebbell responded:

[dropcap size=small][/dropcap]I’m excited to see it too, and my nerves really…The only thing I can tease you about is what I worked on most was the voice because nobody—even in the cartoons, when I was watching them I was like, ‘So where’s he from?’ There’s a mild change and I’ll tell you because of our history…He’s Victor Domashev, not Victor von Doom in our story. And I’m sure I’ll be sent to jail for telling you that. The Doom in ours—I’m a programmer. Very anti-social programmer. And on blogging sites I’m “Doom”.

So… Not only is he not Victor von Doom, but it sounds like he’s not even the ruler of Latveria. He’s a blogger… Doctor Doom is a blogger. Let that sink in.

Should you be able to stomach it, you can watch the video of Kebbell talking about the role below.

The Fantastic Four opens August 7, 2015.
