Spawn creator, Todd McFarlane recently shared the news of a unique Spawn action figure designed in Mortal Kombat style while specifically mentioning MK11. Adding to this was the response Tweet provided by the official Mortal Kombat account, highlighting 3/8 as a date to see whether or not Spawn is “Kombat proven”.

The last time Spawn was seen on the big screen was in a sort of cameo-like appearance in Spielberg’s Ready Player One and before that was back in Spawn’s own solo film in 1997. Since then, there have been many discussions of a supposed reboot of sorts being in early production. According to those reports, after the success of the R-rated Joker film, the Spawn reboot was scrapped and rebooted again with the intention of having an R-rating of its own.

Perhaps the appearance of Spawn in Mortal Kombat is to spark interest in the franchise once more and to garner fan-demand for a Spawn reboot. Clever marketing if true. If not, you can still look forward to playing as Spawn on March 8th.
