According to Variety, Sam Raimi, who directed Sony’s Spider-Man trilogy starring Tobey Maguire, is in some serious discussions with Marvel about stepping up to direct Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness.
Although nothing is confirmed at this time, we suspect that Marvel is likely pushing pretty hard to make it happen after the loss of director Scott Derrickson who left the project in January after some apparent differences in direction with how to take the sequel. Allegedly, Derrickson wanted the movie to have a more horror-like vibe and Marvel Studios just wasn’t having it.
Marvel has not commented on the subject, and as of now, it is purely speculation. As soon as we know more, you will be the first to know.
