[dropcap size=small]F[/dropcap]ollowing the major success of Skyfall, the currently unnamed 24th entry in the James Bond franchise is in pre-production and looking to add a major pop star to its cast list. According to a report by Yahoo! Movies in the UK, Eon Productions has approached singer Rihanna about making an appearance in the upcoming Sam Mendes film starring Daniel Craig as 007.
[dropcap size=small]“[/dropcap]Rihanna is a big fan of the Bond films and has always loved the idea of appearing in one. She didn’t even need to think about it, she knows she wants to do it. She’s really excited.”
The Grammy-winning pop star’s interest in making a cameo in the film has already sparked rumors of her performing the main theme for the film, similar to Madonna in 2002‘s Die Another Day. This may seem like a daunting task as Rihanna will have big musical shoes to fill following Adele’s recording of the title track to Skyfall. She won both a Grammy and an Academy Award for her performance, marking the first time a Bond film has won an Oscar for Best Original Song.
Rihanna has previously appeared on the big screen in 2012’s board game turned motion picture Battleship and last year in Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg’s apocalyptic comedy This is the End.
Production on 007’s next mission will begin in December, so confirmation on the singer’s involvement in the picture could be announced soon.
Bond 24 will be released in the UK on October 23, 2015 and reaches the US on November 6, 2015.
