Resident Evil 4 has been called the greatest entry in the franchise and for good reason- everyone swoons over Leon. Plus the game is like, super incredible. Can’t forget that. And with countless rumors flying around for the past couple or even few years, we were starting to get nervous about whether the Remake would ever see the light of day. And finally, after all this waiting, we got it.

But first, the trailer.

During today’s PlayStation State of Play event, a handful of awesome announcements were made including the long-awaited RE4 Remake. Of course, since it was a PlayStation event, the game is being paraded around for PS5 but despite that, we know that the title will make its way to other platforms when it launches next year on March 23.

Survival Horror Reimagined. That is what they are saying over at Capcom, and with some serious intent behind it. If you watched the trailer, you will immediately recognize that this is not just a touch-up of polygons and texture meshes to the 2005 smash hit but rather a completely new game all together. That’s right, in addition to the graphics catching up with modern platforms, the game itself will be redesigned in many ways, including the story.

Capcom states that they recognize RE4 redefined the genre and that the Remake will “preserve the essence” of the original while achieving “state-of-the-art quality for a survival horror suitable for 2023”. Their goal is to remain faithful to the original while also providing a fresh experience to fans and gamers alike which means overhauling everything, including the visuals, controls, and narrative.

Unlike more recent entries in the series, RE4R will maintain its over-the-shoulder third-person perspective rather than the first-person view like RE7 and Village.

THE STORY THUS FAR

Six years have passed since the biological disaster in Racoon City.

Leon S. Kennedy, one of the survivors of the incident, has been recruited as an agent reporting directly to the president.

With the experience of multiple missions on his back, Leon is sent to rescue the kidnapped daughter of the president of the United States.

He tracks her to a secluded European village, where there is something terribly wrong with the villagers.

And the curtain rises on this story of grueling survival horror and rescue.

Resident Evil 4 is the latest survival horror game where life and death intersect with terror and catharsis. Scheduled to release on March 24, 2023.

Fans have been waiting a long time for this news, myself especially. As an RE fan, RE4 stands out as being the single most influential title in the franchise that sucked me into it in the first place. Back when I originally picked it up for the Nintendo GameCube (#Respect), I knew I would become a fan for life. And after beating it a handful of times on every difficulty imaginable, I just can’t wait to see what sort of new surprises are in store for us next March.
