Fresh from his role as The Joker, Leto joins the cast of the Blade Runner Sequel.
[dropcap size=small]T[/dropcap]he as yet untitled Blade Runner sequel – which will be set several decades after the original Sci-Fi cult classic – has just added Jared Leto to its cast list, but no details have been revealed about his role so far.
Leto will be joining Harrison Ford who’s reprising his role as Richard Deckard for the sequel, alongside the likes of Ryan Gosling (Drive), Robin Wright (House of Cards) and Ana de Ameras (War Dogs).
Sicaro and The Prisoners director Denis Villeneuve is set to direct the film, but details regarding the plot and actors roles are being kept largely under wraps for the time being.
The original Blade Runner (released in 1982) is based on Philip K. Dick’s novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?, and was directed by the ever brilliant Ridley Scott.
The story follows that of a specialist police officer (Ford) who’s assigned to hunt down and terminate artificial beings known as ‘replicants,’ after some of them go rogue and seek to find their creator.
Set against the backdrop of a dystopian futuristic Los Angeles in the year 2019, Scott’s Sci-Fi thriller has been lauded for it’s uniquely stylised world, stellar 80’s soundtrack, memorable characters and thought-provoking story-line. The original film also had a golden cast with some of the best standout performances from Rutger Hauer, Daryl Hannah, Sean Young and, of course, Harrison Ford.
Since we know very little about the plot of the sequel we’re really very intrigued to see how this project turns out, and what Leto will add to the billing.
