The box office success of the reboot of Godzilla has led to the official announcement of a sequel. What’s possibly bigger news is Legendary Pictures, which is producing the new film series, has acquired characters from Toho Company Ltd (the film company that produced the original Godzilla movies).
Godzilla fans of old are thrilled to hear the news, because that means Godzilla 2 could have popular characters such as:
Godzilla’s old foes appear set to return in the upcoming sequel, with concept footage of the monstrous trio appearing at Legendary Pictures’ panel in Hall H at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con. Godzilla director Gareth Edwards is expected to return for the sequel, but no release date has been announced.
Starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, and Bryan Cranston, Legendary Pictures’ Godzilla was released on May 16th, 2014 and has grossed over $498 million worldwide.
