It’s about time Masterchief went to tea at Princess Peach’s castle.
[dropcap size=small]H[/dropcap]alo 5’s Forge map-builder has brought about many beautiful creations, but none more so than a creative player and imgur user who goes by the name of Bearskopff.
Forge – which was released in December 2015 – is a sophisticated multiplayer map-builder, which offers up a wealth of different tools, textures, lighting, weather effects and environmental fixtures. It truly allows players to create maps of their own choosing to their hearts content.
Bearskopff went down a rather nostalgic route by recreating a classic backdrop from one the most loved Nintendo 64 games, Super Mario 64. And there can’t be anyone out there that doesn’t remember one of the most famous fixtures of the game – I am of course talking about Peach’s castle.
Bearskoff spoke more about his creation on reddit, and said a little bit about why he wanted to recreate the old school backdrop:
I was feeling nostalgic so decided to try and recreate the infamous castle from Super Mario 64 in Halo 5 Forge. Had quite a bit of fun and as many headaches trying to piece it all together but am pretty pleased with the final result.
And so you should be, Bearskopff! Just check it out for yourself:
It has to be said that the cartoony style and texture of the map really captures the old school graphics of the N64 beautifully.
Bearskopff hoped to recreate the stained glass window on Peach’s castle, but found that the object restriction in Forge of 1024 a slight hindrance. Nonetheless, it still looks fantastic without it.
But that’s not the only thing Bearskopff has created, oh no. There are plenty of other creations, including several Star Wars themed maps, such as this impressive recreated AT-AT walker from the Battle of Hoth:
Just look at that lens flare! So majestic. It’d make JJ Abrams proud.
Now that’s some real creativity right there. It just goes to show you the endless possibilities this map-builder has to offer if you have the talent and dedication to give it a go! We tip our hats off to you, Bearskopff.
