Anime news has been coming in hot this year, but HIDIVE just decided to light the fandom on fire with a big, flaming “oh by the way” — their upcoming supernatural action series Petals of Reincarnation is set to premiere in 2026. And to make sure your hype glands don’t dry up, they’ve also released the first-ever English-subtitled teaser trailer, which you can now watch and overanalyze on their YouTube channel until your retinas burn in the shape of the show’s logo.
Based on Mikihisa Konishi’s hit manga, Petals of Reincarnation is the kind of premise that sounds like someone dared the author to combine Death Note’s moral chess games, My Hero Academia’s “born special” angst, and Highlander’s reincarnation flexing into one fever dream. The series follows Toya Senji, a guy whose biggest life accomplishment is being almost smarter than 99% of Japan — but still living in the shadow of his genius older brother. His existential crisis gets turbo-charged when he catches classmate Haito Luo Buffet (no relation to Jimmy, probably) casually fighting a serial killer. Toya then learns about the “Stem of Reincarnation,” a supernatural cheat code that lets you come back from self-inflicted death with the talents of a past life. Which raises two questions:
- Who came up with this idea?
- Why haven’t they been institutionalized?
The anime adaptation is in the hands of Director Shun Kudo and BENTEN Film, which means you can expect the visuals to look like they’ve been dipped in money and hand-drawn obsession. The production dream team also includes Atsuo Ishino (series composition), Haruna Kato (character design), Sayaka Ono (design supervision), Kentaro Azuma (action direction), and KOHTA YAMAMOTO on music, which all but guarantees the soundtrack will slap harder than Toya’s inferiority complex.

Voice acting duties are stacked too: Shoya Chiba as Toya Senji, Wakana Maruoka as Haito Luo Buffett, and Ayane Sakura as the mysteriously named John V Neumann — a character whose name screams “either genius or Bond villain.”
For the uninitiated, the manga started back in 2014 and has since ballooned into 22 volumes and over 3 million copies in print worldwide. If you want to catch up, the English version lives on the Mangamo app, which means you have zero excuse not to get up to speed before the anime launches.
So yeah — mark your calendars for 2026. HIDIVE is banking on this being their next big flex, and given the premise, the talent, and the fact it’s about killing yourself in the most productive way possible, Petals of Reincarnation might just be the reincarnation of your new favorite anime.
