Count on seeing a teenage or early 20’s nerf herder in the upcoming film.
[dropcap size=small]S[/dropcap]ince last month, we’ve known that the Star Wars stand-alone film following Rogue One will be one featuring the captain of the Millennium Falcon himself, Han Solo. The film is said to feature a younger Solo, and will show how he became the dashing rogue in the original trilogy.
Few details about the film have been released since its announcement, but in a recent interview, new information has emerged.
Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy spoke with Entertainment Weekly about what events of Solo’s life the film will cover.
“I think the key here is that we are identifying an event or events in Han Solo’s life that gives you some idea of who he is and why he is the character we have all known to love,” Kennedy explained.
Kennedy also addressed what kind of tone the movie will have; “You can imagine, given who we’ve chosen to come in and direct, it should be very entertaining and funny… Han Solo is the character inside Star Wars that everybody knows has a wit and sense of humor. So that’s what this should be.”
The directors of the film whom Kennedy is of course referring to are Phil Lord and Chris Miller, who have become the two of the most wanted men in Hollywood thanks to their successful Jump Street films, and The Lego Movie. The duo was announced to be working on the film back when the project was announced last month.
Finally, Kennedy addressed how old Han will be in the film, a much-speculated topic, as this will narrow down who can be cast as the titular hero.
“[Han Solo] will definitely be probably in the high teens, low 20s, we’re not introducing you to a 10-year-old Han Solo.”
We can all let out a sigh of relief that we won’t be see something like this in the film then…
But in all seriousness, this news narrows down who can portray the legendary pilot. Perhaps Taron Egerton of Kingsman fame? Or how about Logan Lerman from The Perks of Being a Wallflower?
And let’s not forget Anthony Ingruber, who already bears a striking resemblance to Harrison Ford, and can do a pretty solid impression.
The Han Solo Star Wars Story hits theaters on May 25, 2018.
