Alice Through the Looking Glass helmer may take on directing duties.
Despite rumblings that it probably won’t happen, it looks like Jenko and Schmidt will indeed become Men in Black.
Variety reports that Sony is moving forward with the Jump Street-Men in Black crossover film, with production possibly beginning this June.
James Bobin (The Muppets) is reportedly in talks to direct the film, taking over from Phil Lord and Chris Miller, who are currently busy developing the Han Solo spinoff film for Disney.
As for the cast, Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum are expected to return, but Men in Black veterans Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones are not.
Sony apparently hopes to use the film as a way to relaunch the Men in Black franchise with younger talent, so expect new agents if this film is made.
Speaking of which, nothing has yet to be confirmed, and the film hasn’t been officially greenlit by Sony
Rumors of a Jump Street-Men in Black film first began in the wake of the Sony email hacks back in 2014, and the future of the Jump Street franchise has been unknown for some time.
Both 21 and 22 Jump Street are goofy yet smart comedies, and the premise of this crossover alone just oozes potential. We really hope Schmidt and Jenko suit up to walk in shadows, move in silence, and guard against extra-terrestrial violence.
