The story will be based on the original ‘Mighty Morphin Power Rangers!’
[dropcap size=small]L[/dropcap]ionsgate has found the director they want for the new Power Rangers movie in Dean Israelite. Now, they will start looking for characters that will be suiting up and those that will be supporting the Power Rangers.
According to Variety, Lionsgate studio will be testing out young talent, specifically young and up-coming actors and actresses for their positions. Sources say Daniel Zovatto (It Follows), Ross Butler (Chasing Life), and Brian “Sene” Marc are the young talents trying out to be Zack, the Black Power Ranger. For the Red Power Ranger (Jason), actors KJ Apa (Shortland Street), Austin Butler (The Shannara Chronicles), and Mitchell Hope (The Decendants) are trying out for the lead role.
According to sources, Naomi Scott (The Martian) and Stephanie Scott (Insidious 3) for the Pink Power Ranger (Kimberly). The studio is looking for more people to try out for the ranger spots, but there haven’t been any other names that have been confirmed for trying out for a role in the movie.
The script will be written by Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz and producing the movie will be Haim Saban, Brian Casentini, and Allison Shearmur.
The reboot will go back to the original series (over I don’t know how many more series they made after Mighty Morphin’), where a group of high school students are infused with extraterrestrial powers and team up to help save the world. They are aided by giant mechanical vehicles known as Zords.
The popular Fox TV show that started in 1993 turned into a movie in 1995 titled Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers: The Movie. The original TV series aired until 1996, when the titled was renamed to just Power Rangers, with a title change after every season.
The show was an idea that was originally made by a long-running Japanese series called Super Sentai, which had recycled footage put into the Power Rangers series to cut down production costs.
