You know what movie doesn’t need a sequel? Joker. The 2019 film starring Joaquin Phoenix was a surprise hit amidst a rather confusing assortment of DC Comics movies under the Warner Bros. umbrella and after all their recent scandals and shakeups, we are surprised to see Warner Bros. moving forward with a sequel titled Joker: Folie À Deux.
What’s even crazier is that singer turned actress Lady Gaga will star opposite Phoenix as his muse, Harley Quinn.
Earlier today, Gaga tweeted the release date which, as you can see below, is set for October 4th, 2024. Also included in the Tweet was a very brief teaser of Gaga and Phoenix in character dancing to music. See for yourself below.

The 2019 film directed by Todd Philips was surprisingly well-crafted, especially for an origin story of one of the greatest comicbook villains of all time. And considering how sloppy Warner Bros. DCEU has been since the start, we were blown away by the rising tension and dark tones that similar films have failed to properly reproduce. That said, we never wanted a sequel but this was undoubtedly always going to be the case ever since the box office numbers saw massive profits for the film.
Now, it seems that many are curious as to what the plans are for this film considering it appears to be running in its own separate universe opposite Zack Snyder’s Justice League. And considering that Gaga is a singer, and music seems to be the central theme for this film, many suspect that Joker: Folie À Deux could potentially be a musical.
With Warner Bros. now rebranded as Warner Bros. Discovery after their merger, and a new CEO in charge, we assume that the DCEU is going to get a massive shake-up with cancellations and reboots, and anything else you can think of. In any case, it seems that the Joker franchise/universe is surprisingly safe. Something we never saw coming.
