James McAvoy to star as Prof X in upcoming ‘New Mutants’

The star-studded cast for The New Mutants just got better.

[dropcap size=small]I[/dropcap]n a recent interview with Anya Taylor-Joy (The Witch) ComingSoon.net learned that James McAvoy (X-Men: ApocalypseX-Men: First Class) will star in the highly anticipated film The New Mutants. It seems that Anya Taylor-Joy may not have meant to let the news slip however. When the actress was asked if she was hoping to co-star alongside James McAvoy for the film she responded with, “I mean, I think James is already a part of it, isn’t he?”

Whether or not Anya Taylor-Joy meant to confirm James McAvoy’s appearance in The New Mutants remains to be seen. The film already has a star-studded cast line up with Maisie Williams (Doctor Who, Game of Thrones) as Wolfsbane, Anya Taylor-Joy (The Witch, Split) as Magik, and Nat Wolff (The Fault in Our Stars, Paper Towns) as Cannonball so including one more Hollywood favorite would surely help the film do well at the box office.

The New Mutants is rumored to take place around the same time period as X-Men: Apocalypse and may begin following the aftermath of the events that took place in the film. The New Mutants centers around a group of teenagers who discover that the gifted abilities they possess make them mutants. The film is set to hit theaters in the spring of 2018.
