Announced today by the AMC Networks-backed anime streamer, Hero Without a Class: Who Even Needs Skills?! is officially hitting HIDIVE this October as part of its exclusive Fall 2025 simulcast lineup. Because why train hard when you can wing it through raw grit and vibes?

But wait, there’s more. Before the series even hits your streaming queue, Episode 1 will premiere at Anime NYC 2025 (August 21–24), so if you’re heading to the Javits Center, prepare to meet fantasy anime’s most underqualified protagonist on the big screen. HIDIVE’s President John Ledford said, “Everybody loves a hero,” which sounds like a nice sentiment until you realize their hero literally wasn’t given the fantasy world’s version of a LinkedIn profile. No class. No skills. Just determination and a really impressive family tree.

In a world where everyone is assigned a magical class and skills by a benevolent (but apparently kinda disorganized) goddess, Hero Without a Class follows Arel, the son of a Sword Princess and an Archmage. That should’ve guaranteed him a stacked starter kit, but instead, he gets… nothing. Nada. Zilch. This guy didn’t even unlock the tutorial perks. Left to his own devices, Arel carves his path forward the old-fashioned way: using talent, resolve, and maybe just a touch of anime protagonist luck.

The show is based on the light novel series by Shichio Kuzu, which launched in 2018 and quickly expanded into a manga series illustrated by Akio Nanae. With four volumes in the light novel series and nine manga volumes and counting, it’s clear that fans have already bought into the “useless on paper, unstoppable in action” fantasy. The English manga is available through One Peace Books, so you can catch up before the anime drops—if you’re the “read first, watch later” type.

The anime is being brought to life by Studio A-Cat, with Kaoru Yabana directing and Chabo Higurashi writing. And yes, the cast is stacked. Kensho Ono takes the lead as Arel, joined by Saori Hayami as Reiner and Sumire Uesaka as Lilia—because even a hero with no stats deserves an A-tier voice cast.

So, if you’re burned out on overpowered isekai heroes who get handed godlike skills five minutes after respawning, Hero Without a Class might be your next favorite underdog story. It’s a world where hard work > destiny, and HIDIVE wants you to watch every second of it this fall. Just remember: you don’t need a class to be a badass. You just need… well, vibes.
