This news comes courtesy of HIDIVE President John Ledford, who likely hasn’t stopped fist-pumping since sealing the deal. “We’re thrilled to announce the highly anticipated anime adaptation of Petals of Reincarnation as HIDIVE’s newest co-production,” said Ledford, before probably muttering “please let this be the next Jujutsu Kaisen” under his breath. “Petals of Reincarnation has been beloved by readers for more than a decade,” he added, reminding us all how time is a flat circle made of manga volumes.
For the uninitiated (or those with a healthy fear of existential manga premises), Petals of Reincarnation is the brainchild of Mikihisa Konishi, who looked at traditional coming-of-age stories and said, “Needs more reincarnation-based skill trees.” The story follows Touya Senji, a painfully average high schooler who learns that talent isn’t earned—it’s inherited from your past lives. The catch? You have to off yourself (yes, seriously) and get help from something called the “Stem of Reincarnation.” And you thought Tokyo Revengers had a dark twist.

The manga, first serialized back in 2014 (which means it’s technically older than some Gen Alpha anime fans), has bloomed into a 21-volume saga with over 3 million copies in print. It’s currently being published by MAG Garden across MAGCOMI and Monthly Comic Garden, and you can read it in English on the Mangamo app—because nothing screams “light subway reading” like philosophical suicide and ghost-powered fight scenes.
The anime was originally teased during the manga’s 10th anniversary last year in Japan, and now it’s confirmed: it’s real, it’s happening, and it’s going to make your MyAnimeList watchlist cry. No word yet on the release date, but we’re guessing it’ll drop as soon as the animators are finished reincarnating from their last burnout cycle.
So get ready to question everything you know about talent, death, and the logistics of past-life memory upload. Petals of Reincarnation is coming soon—and if you don’t like it, maybe you’ll appreciate it in your next life.
