LOS ANGELES — JULY 5, 2025 — Anime Expo 2025 just delivered the news every isekai fan with a sword-shaped hole in their heart has been waiting for: Season 2 of Reincarnated as a Sword is officially happening. And no, it’s not a joke. We’re still talking about the anime where the main character dies and comes back as a literal blade. Because of course.
The announcement was made during NBC Universal’s industry panel, where AMC Networks’ HIDIVE revealed that it will exclusively simulcast Season 2 during its Fall 2026 lineup. Cue the sound of 5,000 cosplayers clapping while trying not to drop their oversized foam weaponry.
Based on the light novels and manga by Yuu Tanaka, Reincarnated as a Sword originally hit HIDIVE in 2022 and immediately carved out a spot as one of the top-ranked isekai titles ever made—because apparently dying and waking up as farming equipment is the new power fantasy. This particular anime asks: What if you got hit by a truck and came back as a sword, then adopted a catgirl and started slashing bad guys for justice? Anime said yes.

For those new to the madness: the show follows a guy who dies (of course), is reincarnated as a sentient sword, and is picked up by Fran, a young girl being hunted by slavers. Together, they make one of anime’s most wholesome and deadly duos—think father-daughter bonding, if dad was a 6-foot-long murder stick with a glowing core and an inner monologue.
John Ledford, President of HIDIVE, got on the mic and reminded everyone that Reincarnated as a Sword didn’t just show up, it stabbed its way into people’s hearts (not literally… we hope). “The series’ popularity and fandom have never waned,” he said, adding that the hype train will only grow stronger in 2026. He then presumably rode away on a giant sword-shaped float made entirely of fan tears and collector’s editions.
The new teaser visual and logo dropped at Anime Expo this morning, and reactions ranged from “Oh hell yes!” to “Wait, they’re really doing more of this?” Yes. Yes, they are. And it’s being handled once again by C2C, with returning director Shinji Ishihira and writer Takahiro Nagano—the same minds that first made everyone emotionally invested in a sharp piece of metal.
Adapted from Micro Magazine’s GC Novels and the manga illustrated by Tomowo Maruyama, both of which are available in English from Seven Seas Entertainment (aka the purveyors of all your favorite weirdly specific isekai), Reincarnated as a Sword continues to prove that anime has no chill—and we love it that way.
