[dropcap size=small]H[/dropcap]eart, be still – British hunk Idris Elba recently revealed in an interview with The Telegraph that he will be appearing in Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron as Heimdall, the Asgardian guardian. He also let slip that fan-favorite Tom Hiddleston will indeed reprise his role as Loki for the film.
Elba made the revelation during the interview when he coyly stated that he had recently shot a scene for the Avengers sequel:
[dropcap size=small]“[/dropcap]I’m in Avengers, and I’m doing a scene with Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston, and they’re like, [whispers]– ‘Aren’t you [meant to be] in Ibiza?’”
Elba was referring to a DJ set that he performed in Spain the day before he filmed his scenes for Age of Ultron.
While the dropped details have fans thrilled, the film’s director Joss Whedon isn’t too happy about Elba blowing the secret. Although there has been no official confirmation from Marvel about Elba and Hiddleston’s involvement, when pressed on the issue during an interview with Vulture, Whedon said about Elba’s remarks:
[dropcap size=small]“[/dropcap]Um, should he receive an email from me, there might be an attitude of scold.”
He also said about the spoiler:
[dropcap size=small]“[/dropcap]When you have a cast of 19,000 people, inevitably, once every month, you pick up [a story] and you’re like, ‘Awww.'”
No word on exactly how Heimdall and Loki will fit into the the film’s plot, but based on Whedon’s response, it seems fairly safe to say that they would perhaps be featured in quick surprise cameo.
How do you think Heimdall and Loki will play into the film?
