George R. R. Martin Skipping Cons to Finish GoT Books

For those of you heading down to the World Fantasy Convention or SDCC this year in hopes of meeting George R. R. Martin, we have some bad news for you.

[dropcap size=small]T[/dropcap]he mastermind behind A Game of Thrones took to his blog last week to post an entry titled Sorry, Saratoga. In the entry he expresses that as much as he enjoys attending the World Fantasy Convention he unfortunately has to cancel his public appearance. He then goes on to explain that his reasoning for not being there this year has nothing to do with the convention itself, but rather the fact that he just has too much on his plate and not enough time.

As sad as the fans in Saratoga will be, we’re sure they’ll understand that finishing up his latest book Winds of Winter is top priority.

“My apologies to anyone who saw Saratoga on my Appearances page and planned to go in order to see me. I won’t be there. Go anyway. You’ll have a great time.”

On top of canceling his Saratoga appearance, the author also expressed that he wouldn’t be attending San Diego Comic-Con this year either, stating that not going to SDCC is “not as big a deal” as Saratoga because it was never listed on his Appearances page to begin with. Oh yeah? We know thousands of geeks (including ourselves) that are patiently waiting for that schedule of events to still be released that would beg to differ.

The man just needs all the time he can get. Not all hope is lost though, at the end of the entry he mentions that if he is able to finish Winds of Winter before these conventions take place, he will gladly reserve his right to change his mind.

I was born, I pooped myself a bunch, I cried, took my first step, and then at the young age of eight my dad showed me a little film by the name of Pulp Fiction. My mind was blown. From that moment I learned to appreciate film on another level. To put it simply, I love movies.
