[dropcap size=small]A[/dropcap]ccording to the British publication The Sun, 30-year old actress and model Gemma Atkinson is talks to star as Supergirl in the new CBS series produced by Greg Berlanti (Arrow, The Flash).
The British actress is known for various roles overseas in television and film including Hollyoaks, Casualty, and Night of the Living 3D Dead.
The Sun reports that in addition to Supergirl, Atkinson is also up for a role in the long-running British soap opera Emmerdale.
According to a source close to the actress:
[dropcap size=small]“[/dropcap]Gemma is a huge fan of comic books so this is something she’d jump at. It will make her huge Stateside. She said next year will be her best yet whatever happens. If she gets Supergirl it will be amazing or if she begins working on Emmerdale that will be great too.”
Atkinson is the second name to surface for what’s sure to be the coveted role. Clair Holt (The Originals) was rumored to have been considered for the lead part.
Not much is known about the upcoming series, but rumors suggest that the show will alter Supergirl’s origin story. The character created by writer Otto Binder and designed by artist Al Plastino in 1959 for Action Comics #123.
