We’re one step closer to getting the film!
[dropcap size=small]U[/dropcap]niversal Pictures recently announced that Shane Salerno (Armageddon) will be the writer for the Gears of War film. The film is being produced by Dylan Clark (War of the Planet of the Apes).
This is the latest step in the process for the film after it was announced late last year. Rod Fergusson, the head of The Coalition and boss of Gears of War, said that the film adaptation will not be based on any of the games but it will be set in the same universe and will have a new story. The current synopsis of the film is “On the planet Sera, a former P.O.W. is civilization’s best hope in their fight against the Locust Horde, a race of creatures who emerged from underneath the planet’s surface, intent on eliminating humankind.”
For those of you who are unfamiliar with the game series, it centers around a group of soldier’s fight for survival after a swarm of aliens called Locusts emerge from the center of the planet and threaten all of humanity. It has sales of over $1 billion worldwide and is one of Microsoft’s most beloved series, next to Halo. You can watch a trailer of the remastered first Gears of War game below.
Currently there are no directors or actors tied to the film but it is still early in the process.
There is no release date for the Gears of War film.
