X-Men Producer Wants Mutants to Join the MCU, Disney Acquisition still Possible

Lauren Shuler Donner is all for the X-Men joining the MCU. Kevin Feige, not so much.

If you were to ask any fan of the Marvel comics about whether or not they’d like to see the X-Men join the MCU, you would get a resounding, “Hell yeah!” and with good reason too. The X-Men are arguably Marvel’s most popular characters and thanks to Lauren Shuler Donner, the producer behind the X-Men films and television series, these heroes (and villains) have only become even more popular. However, what Lauren Donner wants most is for the X-Men to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Lauren Donner was recently interviewed by Vanity Fair and when she was asked about joining the MCU the producer replied, “Well, I wish. I would love it, I would love it. But it’s not for me to say.” Nonetheless, Kevin Feige had a much more sobering outlook on the idea saying, “Well, the problem is whenever I say anything about it, it becomes 15 headlines. So would we like to? yeah, of course. Is there any movement toward it at all? No. Same thing. Same status.”

While you could say that Kevin Feige has shot down the idea of a crossover, you could argue that head of Marvel Studios is wrong. The Walt Disney Company, which owns Marvel, recently expressed interest in purchasing 20th Century Fox. In doing so, this would mean Marvel would once again own the rights to the Fantastic Four and the X-Men. With that said, talks did fall through in the beginning but it appears that The Walt Disney Company has returned to the table once again.

What would this mean for the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe? No one really knows. Kevin Feige has gone on record as saying that they have another 20 films planned after Avengers: Infinity War, but all of these films have nothing to do with the X-Men and it’s unclear how Marvel would fit them into their Phase 4 plans. Still, one can’t help but hope for the outcome because who wouldn’t want to see Deadpool get into an argument with Tony Stark or Nick Fury?

In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and is widely regarded as a bad move.
