Destiny 2 Fans Demand Game Director Tyson Green Step Down

If you thought Destiny 2’s biggest grind was farming Nightfalls for that one Adept roll you’ll never use, think again.

The Destiny community is furious and the state of the game right now is the worst it has ever been. Don’t take our word for it. You can try playing the game for less than hour and see for yourself. And with that, naturally, has come a typhoon of backlash all aimed at one person—Destiny 2 Game Director, Tyson Green.

A Reddit post with the subtle title Tyson Green – as Game Director you should step down – your ‘vision’ has failed has absolutely exploded, racking up 5,000 likes and 500+ comments all in support of Green being removed from his position.

The Original Poster essentially rolled out the receipts:

  • Green has been a ghost. (And not the cute floating robot kind. More like the “Dad who left to get cigarettes ten years ago” kind.)
  • He’s been MIA from State of the Game updates, Vids, and even the Renegades Vidoc—basically Destiny’s equivalent of skipping your own wedding photos.
  • Instead of showing up, his Assistant Game Director is the one delivering the “vision” speeches. Which is like sending your intern to pitch your blockbuster movie while you stay home playing Halo for nostalgia.

The OP even called out that Green dragged Destiny back into a Destiny 1-style grind nobody asked for, which is wild because players specifically celebrated when the game escaped that kind of treadmill years ago.

User Navier_stokes doubled down in response “My understanding is that he [Green] basically just wants to undo everything [Joe]Blackburn did, and it seems like it’s a petty internal power struggle. He needs to go.

Then user Joshy41233 hit with the combo move adding “100% he needs to step down, his vision just isn’t what the game needs, this isn’t Diablo where that kind of grind IS the content.” Constant grind, stingy loot, forced power imbalances, fun vacuumed out of the room—it’s like Green found the community’s list of most-hated features and said, “Yo, let’s make that the whole game!”

Destiny 2 Forsaken | Bungie

Because that wasn’t enough, djabolic had to step in with a finisher saying “Almost everything he came up with is bad. Power level grind is back. Crafting? Removed. Seasonal story? Gone. Pinnacle activities? Gone. Ninety-five percent of the armor, weapons, and activities? Irrelevant. He invented the Portal, gave us “featured gear”, made drops stingy, slapped timers on activities, and topped it all off with those stupid unstable cores. At this point it feels like the failures are not even accidents, they’re deliberate, and players are reacting accordingly. Let’s see who will win in the end.

The Edge of Fate expansion was already considered lukesmithwarm at best, and the follow-up “major” update Ash & Iron turned out to be basically Hot Topic’s clearance rack in update form—nothing new, all recycled, and somehow depressing.

Concurrent player counts are at an all-time low, community sentiment is even lower, and Reddit is full of torches and pitchforks. Twitter is worse, but Twitter is always worse. And with Green in charge, the game feels like an unpaid internship where your only job is to endlessly redo the same chores while Bungie swears there’s a “vision” behind it all.

After all that has happened recently, Sony might want to consider stepping in before Destiny 2 finishes speed-running itself into irrelevance. Because right now, the only thing more grindy than the game is the ongoing campaign to get its director fired.
