Goodbye New 52, hello Rebirth.
DC Entertainment has unveiled the newest logo for their DC Comics label.
Check it out below.
This new logo coincides with the release of the new series “Rebirth,” a revamping of the DC Comics universe.
If it seems like DC just announced a new logo and comic series, you’re not wrong. A few years back, “The New 52” was revealed, which was a relaunch of every DC Comic series. This meant changes to the DC universe’s long-standing continuity were made to entice new readers, in an attempt to make the comics more accessible. Not long after, the company’s logo changed as well, featuring a “secret identify” motif.

So why change the logo, and comics, again? While the New 52 was an initial success, sales began to declined, and books with new characters barely sold at all. Additionally, it’s not a stretch to say that DC is struggling outside of the comics realm with their cinematic universe, so this rebranding could be an attempt to distance themselves from their past troubles (specifically a certain recent film).
Rebirth, while necessarily not a revamp like New 52, will feature new writers and artists working on the current lineup of comics, in addition to new ones. It’s set to be a refreshing take on the lore and classic iconography of this longstanding comics empire, and the new logo is a reflection of this.
“To me, Rebirth and the new DC logo are built on what’s come before while looking to what will come tomorrow. I can’t wait for people to see it on the cover,” explained Geoff Johns, DC Entertainment’s Chief Creative Officer.
The new DC logo will debut on May 25 with the release of DC Universe: Rebirth Special #1.
