Chris Evans Willing to Play Captain America for as Long as Possible

Cap will pass the shield on to someone else when he and Marvel decide the time is right.

Believe it or not, Captain America: Civil War is only a week away, (and only a day away for our lucky UK friends).

Perhaps no one is more excited than Steve Rogers himself, Chris Evans.

Evans recently sat down with Collider to promote his upcoming film, while also revealing he may be playing his Marvel character longer than expected.

Currently, the actor is tapped for a nine-picture deal with Marvel, meaning if Steve Rogers is to appear in films post Avengers: Infinity War Part I and II, renegotiations would need to take place.

After being questioned on working with Tom Holland/ Spider-Man (which he said was awesome), Evans addressed whether his contract has been updated.

“There is no re-upping yet. I was just saying in my last interview that it’s so funny thinking about how fast time has moved. We started this in 2010 and six years has gone in a blink of an eye. In the beginning, it was so terrifying and now you’re almost scared to … I’m scared to walk away. I’m scared to not have one of these (Marvel movie) coming. These past six years there’s always been, ‘Next year we start that one.’ And it’s been wonderful, especially because the movies are so good. When you make good movies, who wants to stop doing that? “

“So, I don’t know. We’ll see. I know in the comic books that the shield gets passed off. And what you do know, more than anything else in this process meeting fans, experiencing these junkets and people who love the character the character is bigger than you and whatever the character needs, whatever Marvel needs for that arc, I’m willing to do. So if that is me passing it off, you pass it off. But if they want to make more, I’m ready.”

You can watch the full interview here.

Despite speculation that Evans wanted out of the MCU as soon as his contract was up (same for Robert Downey Jr.), it honestly seems like he is enjoying his time with Marvel, and is truly willing to stick around.

He brings up a good point too: each MCU film has been great, so why stop a good thing.

Captain America: Civil War hits theaters on May 6.
