According to the kind of internet announcement that arrives wrapped in equal parts hype and uneducated guestimates, Boom! Studios is allegedly preparing to launch a new Mighty Morphin Power Rangers comic series later this year, with June floated as the target window. No exact release date has been provided, and no official source seems to corroborate this claim, which is usually the first clue that this might not exactly be entirely accurate.
The news comes from ‘The Legacy of Nerd’, whose claims suggest that Marguerite Bennett will take over writing duties, while Melissa Flores will not be returning. Whether this new series is meant to be a straight continuation, a sequel, or a full “wipe the whiteboard and start over” reboot remains completely unknown, which is either a bold creative strategy or simply the absence of information doing what it does best.
TLoN shared the news across social media alongside an image that lists Penguin Random House Publishing as the source. The only problem is that, after checking Penguin Random House’s official website and its news blog, we found zero evidence of this announcement, no press release, and no confirmation that such plans currently exists in any official sense. And we went back several weeks on the blog to check. Complicating things further, The Legacy of Nerd does have a website (a shoddy one), but no accompanying article or additional reporting was provided to back up the claim.
To be clear, we are not saying The Legacy of Nerd is wrong. We are simply saying that “trust me, bro” across Facebook, Threads, Twitter, and Instagram is a less-than-ideal citation when announcing a major shift in one of BOOM! Studios’ flagship comic lines. Transparency would go a long way here, especially when the Power Rangers fandom has spent the last decade learning to read between the lines of corporate silence.
That said, the rumor does line up suspiciously well with existing Power Rangers comic continuity. Bennett previously took over writing duties near the end of Shattered Grid, one of the most ambitious and continuity-bending arcs BOOM! has produced. That storyline segued into Beyond the Grid, an alternate-universe follow-up featuring a displaced and notably diverse Ranger team. In other words, if BOOM! were planning a creative reset, Bennett would not be an out-of-left-field choice.
For now, the safest approach is to take this news with a grain of salt, keep expectations in check, and remain cautiously open-minded. At least until BOOM! Studios or Penguin Random House actually says something out loud.
