He will stay on board as producer and star of the film.
[dropcap size=small]F[/dropcap]or a while now Ben Affleck has made it abundantly clear that he was not comfortable with stepping into the role of director for the upcoming Batman film due to several issues. Just a few weeks ago we reported that the actor refused to begin working on the film until there was a script which he felt did the character justice. Knowing that Batman v Superman didn’t sit well with fans Ben Affleck learned a valuable lesson that Zack Snyder has yet to realize, that a proper and successful superhero film must follow the comics in a way that pleases both die-hard fans and regular movie goers alike. With so much falling upon his own shoulders it appears that Ben Affleck decided it would be best to step down as director.
Following his decision to step down as director, Warner Bros. released a statement stating that they fully support Ben Affleck’s decision and the company “remains committed to working with him to bring a standalone Batman picture to life.” Ben Affleck also released his own statement as well explaining his reason for stepping down.
“There are certain characters who hold a special place in the hearts of millions, Performing this role demands focus, passion and the very best performance I can give. It has become clear that I cannot do both jobs to the level they require. Together with the studio, I have decided to find a partner in a director who will collaborate with me on this massive film. I am still in this, and we are making it, but we are currently looking for a director. I remain extremely committed to this project, and look forward to bringing this to life for fans around the world.”
With Ben Affleck stepping down as director the Batman film’s proposed release date has surely been pushed back several months at least. Rumors are currently going around that Warner Bros. is wasting no time and has already begun looking for a replacement director right now. Let’s just hope the next director realizes just like Ben Affleck did what is at stake here for the Batman film.
