Don’t go to the bathroom, or you’ll miss the Aquaman cameo.
We could have told you months ago that Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice will be a long movie, as DC and Zack Snyder films have a track record of running, well, long.
However, now we know exactly how big this behemoth of film will be, as AMC Theaters confirmed that Batman v Superman will run for two hours and 31 minutes.
While longer than any MCU film, and only a couple of minutes longer than Man of Steel, this definitely isn’t the longest film to star the Caped Crusader, as Chris Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises clocked in at 2 hours and 45 minutes.
Two and a half hours makes for a long movie, but will it be long enough? Warner Bros. and DC have lots of characters and plot points to establish as they to jump-start this cinematic universe, and also setup the upcoming Justice League films.
So for fun, here’s everything we know the film will (try) to cover in its runtime:
- Flashback to Superman fighting Zod in Man of Steel, from the perspective of Bruce Wayne.
- Explain what has happened to Metropolis following its destruction in Man of Steel.
- Establish Jesse Eisenberg’s Lex Luthor; his business, motives, etc.
- Check in with Clark Kent, and his job at Daily Planet, and Perry White too, I guess.
- Check in with Ma Kent, see how she’s be holding up.
- Check in with Lois Lane, further the relationship between her and Clark.
- Establish Gotham City.
- Establish Ben Affleck’s Batman. Who is he? How is he different from previous versions of the character?
- Establish Alfred. Same questions.
- Flashback to Bruce Wayne’s parents dying…again.
- Hint at the Joker, and Batman’s old partners, like Robin or Barbara Gordon.
- Speaking of Barbara Gordon, reveal Jenna Malone’s character.
- Establish Holly Hunter’s senator character.
- Establish the conflict between Superman and Batman. Duh.
- Establish Diana Prince/Wonder Woman.
- Weird dream sequence that hints at Darkseid.
- Zod’s corpse.
- The actual fight between Batman and Superman.
- The creation of Doomsday.
- Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman fighting Doomsday.
- Lex Luthor loosing his hair.
- Aquaman cameo.
- Cyborg cameo.
- The Flash cameo.
- Justice League tease.
- And (hopefully) some things we don’t know about.
Needless to say, this film has a lot of stuff going on, and lots going for it, so let’s hope it makes the most of its runtime.
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice hits theaters on March 25.
