With the role of Peter Parker finally cast, Marvel and Sony have turned their attention to the role of the aunt who raised him.

[toggler title=”TL;DR” ]According to rumors, Marisa Tomei has been cast as Aunt May for Marvel and Sony’s upcoming film, Spider-Man.[/toggler]

[dropcap size=small]A[/dropcap]ccording to Variety‘s sources, Marisa Tomei is Marvel and Sony’s preferred choice to play Aunt May in the upcoming Spider-Man movie. The sources could not say if the deal had been finalized between Marisa Tomei and Marvel/Sony, but they did say that an offer was made to the actress some time last week. Sony and Marvel have yet to comment on the news.

The casting of Marisa Tomei as Aunt May is slightly surprising because of the type of movies she has starred in, none of them have been akin to Spider-Man. The role will be a different one for the actress, who has starred in drams like The Wrestler and The Ides of March, and in comedies like Crazy, Stupid Love. Her role in the film My Cousin Vinny landed her an Oscar so hopefully she will play the part of one of Peter Parker’s most important role models very well.

Marvel and Sony just recently chose Tom Holland to play the role of the ironic web-slinger after many screen tests and months of discussions. With the casting of Aunt May given to Marisa Tomei in place and the selection of Jon Watts to direct the film, it seems that Sony and Marvel finally have the ball rolling. This is good news considering that many fans feared that Sony and Marvel would have trouble agreeing on who should play what role in the film.

No official date for Spider-Man has been given.
