Netflix’s live-action Avatar series has left many fans skeptical, unsure, and nervous about what the streaming juggernaut had planned for their beloved animated series. And now, after teaser after teaser, we finally have received the first official trailer- one that shows a pretty sizable amount of visually impressive snippets from their upcoming series. And it looks rad.

The upcoming American adventure fantasy TV series, also known as “Avatar: The Legend of Aang,” is set to premiere on February 22, 2024, exclusively on Netflix. Albert Kim leads an ensemble cast, including Gordon Cormier, Dallas Liu, Kiawentiio, Ian Ousley, Paul Sun-Hyung Lee, Elizabeth Yu, and Daniel Dae Kim.
Netflix officially announced the main cast back in August 2021, with Gordon Cormier, Kiawentiio, Ian Ousley, and Dallas Liu in the lead roles. This casting is significant, providing an opportunity to showcase Asian and Indigenous characters in a tangible world. Subsequent announcements added Daniel Dae Kim as Fire Lord Ozai, Paul Sun-Hyung Lee, Lim Kay Siu, and Ken Leung in key roles. More additions in December featured Elizabeth Yu, Yvonne Chapman, Tamlyn Tomita, Casey Camp-Horinek, and Maria Zhang.
April 2022 introduced Arden Cho and Momona Tamada as new cast members, including C. S. Lee as Avatar Roku. June 2022 saw A Martinez and Amber Midthunder added, while James Sie reprised his role as the Cabbage Merchant in July. September 2022 brought more excitement with George Takei as the voice of Koh the Face Stealer and Randall Duk Kim as the voice of Wan Shi Tong.
The live-action adaptation promises a visually stunning and culturally rich experience, staying true to the spirit of the beloved animated series. Fans eagerly anticipate the premiere and now we know we have a relatively faithful adaptation to look forward to when it hits Netflix exclusively next month.
