We finally have the official word on who will be starring in what many will presume is the next iteration of inevitable cinematic failure in the upcoming Superman: Legacy. 29-year-old David Corenswet (The Politician) will be picking up the cape and portraying Clark Kent/Superman with Rachel Brosnahan (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel) his opposite as Lois Lane.
The news comes from THR, which is reporting that Corenswet and Brosnahan were two of about half of a dozen actors that were in the running for these highly sought-after roles, which included Nicholas Hoult gunning (no pun intended) for the lead in Superman: Legacy as well.

The news of Corenswet being confirmed to take over from Cavill will no doubt come as a bit of a shock as fans come to terms with the realization that Henry is really Superman no more. Sure, we knew this already but it becomes all the more real knowing who is replacement is. On top of that, it is hard to have faith in James Gunn as his plans for the future of DC Studios, of which he is now co-CEO, did not exactly resonate with fans when he laid it out in spades of what we can expect over the next few years.
On the other hand, Brosnahan is an excellent choice for Lois Lane and probably the best casting for the character that we have seen since… well, before Returns. So, at the very least, something is being done well with the casting.
The casting news is probably the biggest drop in the bucket since Gunn announced the lineup of film projects expected to take place under his leadership. However, while Gunn is a man of many hats, he may not have a head big enough to support them all as co-CEO, writer, director, producer, and everything else. Just imagine how different Marvel Studios would be today if Kevin Feige wrote and directed Iron Man or Thor, while also overseeing the entire structure of the MCU. Our thoughts exactly.
Superman: Legacy will be directed by DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn who will also be working as a writer, among other things, with plans for the film to release on July 11, 2025.
