Fans of Showtime’s killer series Dexter will be happy to know that a handful of spin-off projects are in the works, both of which appear to be prequels. One of which will be a series called ‘Dexter: Origins’ featuring a young Dexter Morgan having just graduated college and joining the Miami Metro. The other prequel series will feature season four’s Trinity Killer in his early days.

In addition to these prequel shows, Dexter: New Blood is allegedly still on track to get a second season featuring Dexter’s son, Harrison. This news seems to conflict with earlier reports over the last 24 hours with some sources like ScreenRant saying New Blood 2 is canceled while others such as GameRant and TVLine claim it is still moving forward.
These three new projects are set to be Paramount+ exclusives as Showtime is merging into the streaming service under the new label “Paramount+ With Showtime” later this year.

As of now, we don’t really have our hopes up for these Dexter-esque shows. The last few seasons of the main series were mediocre at best, to terrible at worst (blame Scott Buck) and New Blood couldn’t have felt more distant from what made us fall in love with Dexter Morgan all those years ago. Now, spin-off shows could be good but considering these appear to be without Michael C. Hall, are interest is fairly thin.
In any case, fans of Dexter may find joy in this news but until we hear a little more about the direction and development, let alone casting, we will refrain from expressing any significant excitement.
