Dexter: Resurrection Showrunner Teasers New York Ripper for Season 2

Will The New York Ripper be season two's big bad? Or just another body on Dexter's table?

In a recent interview with the Dark Passengers Podcast, executive producer and showrunner for Dexter: Resurrection, Clyde Phillips, confirmed that The New York Ripper, revealed to be a man by the name of ‘Don Framt’, will appear in the second season of the smash hit Showtime series.

He [Framt] will be in the second season,” said Phillips.

Season 1 of Resurrection teased his existence like a horror-movie boogeyman, but never actually showed his face. But we know his name: Don Framt. And according to Phillips, Season 2 will stop giving us crumbs and hand us the whole bloody loaf.

We know very little about The Ripper, aside from the fact that he is a serial killer who operated across New York City for years, slicing, dicing, and generally making life miserable for anyone who enjoys nighttime walks. Then, one day, he just… stopped killing. Likely not because he found inner peace or a good therapist. Yet, despite not killing for whatever reason, he apparently discovered another insanely toxic hobby: harassing the loved ones of his victims instead.

The only thing authorities know for sure? He’s male. Probably. The sole bit of evidence of him (until the season finale) is a phone recording of him that sounds like a man somewhere between 35 and 45, though nobody’s sure if that’s his actual voice or just the world’s worst Ghostface voice filter.

During the Season 1 finale, Dexter gets locked inside Prater’s vault (which is basically Comic-Con for serial-killer memorabilia) and stumbles across the Ripper’s file. Dexter leaves it behind—because he’s busy not dying—but Claudette finds later finds the file, which contains his name and presumably more evidence of his killing hobby, along with the Ripper’s weapon of choice hung on the wall in a display case.

Let’s sum things up, nice and sweet:

  • The Ripper has killed a lot of women, but seemingly stopped killing, and now likes to call the family of his victims to torment them about the unspeakable acts he committed against them
  • Detective Claudette Wallace is completely obsessed with the Ripper—like “every scene of hers is five seconds from a breakdown” obsessed.
  • The Ripper’s killing tool ended up in Leon Prater’s trophy collection, the serial-killer Airbnb from hell.
  • Prater kept a file on The Ripper that revealed his real name to be Don Framt, presumably along with a bunch of other information on his location as well as his crimes.
  • It’s implied Framt was either a former guest in Prater’s murder club or someone being scouted like a promising draft pick for Serial Killer Fantasy League.
  • In the finale, Detectives find the extensive files on the serial killers Prater kept tabs on, and the Ripper is in one of those files.

At the end of the finale, Dexter escapes with as many of the murder files he could carry out the door: essentially his Season 2 to-do list. And as Season two kicks off, we expect to see that Dexter has checked off at least a few from that list while Detective Claudette Wallace focuses her attention on Framt.

Still, it would not be nearly as satisfying for Framt to face judgement through the whole “legal justice system” as opposed to looking up at Dexter from his backside before taking freshly-sharpened stainless steel to the heart. What fun would that be?

Whatever the case, we absolutely loved the first season and can’t wait to see what happens next.
