Cyberpunk 2077 Gets New ‘Edgerunners’ Update, Next DLC to Leave Last-Gen Consoles Behind

After a long wait, fans are finally getting a handful of updates they have been wanting.

Earlier this morning, CD Projekt Red held a couple of livestreams on Twitch that focused on some major updates coming to Cyberpunk 2077. Some of the updates, a handful of which can be found in-game as of today already, will not be coming to last-gen consoles so you may want to read on if you are looking forward to all that is on the way.

Edgerunners Update

First, a Cyberpunk Edgerunners update is out today across all platforms. The update, which coincides with CDPR’s upcoming Netflix show that comes out on September 13th, sees some new weapons, cosmetics, missions, and more being added to the game for PS4, PS5, XBO, and Xbox Series X|S. Much of the Edgerunners content that arrives/arrived today are featured in the show as it takes place in the same universe as the game. This means the Edgerunners missions you can play in 2077 do also coincide with the upcoming animated series as they are within the same universe.

But that is not all. As it turns out, the Edgerunners update isn’t just one that throws in a couple of cosmetics and a quest to promote the show as there is a lot more under the hood with today’s update. Like, a lot more.

Perhaps two of the most-demanded features players have wanted to see are Transmog and being able to change your character’s custom appearance. Both of these requested features are now in the game for all platforms and you can head on over to your nearest Ripperdoc to change your look with a handful of new styles also available.

CDPR also teased that there are weapons and other secrets scattered around the map along with easter eggs relating to Edgerunners that you will have to find and discover for yourself.

PATCH 1.6

In addition to the rather large Edgerunners update, CDPR also revealed that the next patch coming to the game will be the last one for last-gen consoles. Patch 1.6 will come with a bunch of major bug fixes and a complete overhaul to the police system, something that has had some updates in the past but still kind of sucks. The patch will also add vehicle combat to the game, new Cyberware, and updates to melee combat along with new perks that will be added to the game.

Patch 1.6 did not get a release date but it is presumably still baking and will be ready fairly soon. To be clear, while this update is fairly significant, it will be the last one to come to PS4 and Xbox One consoles.

Phantom Liberty

CDPR also teased their upcoming DLC, Phantom Liberty, one that they claimed to be about as big as what we saw for The Witcher 3, presumably along the lines of Blood and Wine. The DLC, which got a teaser trailer that you can watch below, will arrive next year and will see the return of Keanu Reeves as Johnny Silverhand with fresh new dialogue as he accompanies V on some sort of political mission.

It should be clear that this update will not be coming to last-gen consoles, which means only PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC will be getting Phantom Liberty.

In addition to all the above, there was a lot more discussed and revealed during CDPR’s livestreams so if you want to take all that in, head over to their official Twitch channel where you can watch the whole thing in its entirety.

Cyberpunk 2077 had the most disastrous launch in recent gaming history, maybe of all time, but it does seem like CDPR is working desperately to restore trust among fans, critics, investors, and pretty much everyone at this point. And while we put the game down in hopes to jump in some day to a more complete and less buggy experience, it seems that we are getting pretty close to that. Although, we may just wait until Patch 1.6 to jump back in. Just to be safe.
