Batman’s number one rival is getting his own standalone film.
[dropcap size=small]N[/dropcap]ews has broken that Warner Bros. Studios and DC have their sights set on expanding the DC Extended Universe by producing a film focused on the Clown Prince of Crime’s origins. Warner Bros. wishes to have Todd Philips (The Hangover) create a script and direct the film. In addition to this, Martin Scorsese would be producing the film as well and the best news of all is that while Jared Leto will be reprising his role as The Joker for Harley Quinn’s own solo film the studio is currently searching for a younger actor for the role.
Unlike the rest of the DCEU films with the exception of Wonder Woman, the Joker origin film will be set in 1980’s Gotham and will feature a dark and crime-focused tone that Martin Scorsese is best known for. There is no current information on what sort of origin story DC and Warner Bros. will be pursuing but the most common story features the man falling into a tank of chemical waste which bleaches his skin, turns his hair green, his lips bright red, and due to this extreme disfigurement it drives the man insane. Seen by many to be the direct opposite of Batman in both personality and appearance, the Joker is widely considered to be the caped crusader’s worst enemy and his number one rival.
