As both TMNT and Ghostbusters prepare to celebrate their 30th anniversaries it has been announced that the two will be joining forces for a new comic.
The basic premise of the comic is that the Turtles are accidentally transported to another universe by a faulty invention. The universe being a New York City very similar to their own, except this one has a massive ghost problem. Logically they team up with the Ghostbusters, and quickly find out that they didn’t enter this new universe alone.
Tom Waltz, writer of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series at IDW, and editor for the Ghostbusters series, along with Erik Burnham, the writer of the Ghostbusters series and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Secret History of The Foot Clan will be in charge of this new crossover. Both seem very well-placed.
In regards to the new project, Erik Burnham said,
“A couple of years ago, Tom Waltz and I chatted like the fans we are about how insanely fun this crossover would be if we ever got the chance to write it. As I sit here today, my excitement level is at eleven.”
Co-writer Tom Waltz said,
“This is an idea that Erik, series editor Bobby Curnow, and I have bounced off each other for quite a while. And being as deeply entrenched in both properties as the three of us are gives us a unique perspective on how to bring them together. And what better time to do it than during the combined 30th year anniversary celebration?”
Editor Bobby Curnow, excited about the new project, said,
“Both Ghostbuster and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are fun, funny, and just a little bit weird. So putting the two together is a natural choice, especially when you consider the fact that Tom and Erik have worked on both properties for years. This one should be an absolute blast!”
As far as the art goes, Ghostbusters artist Dan Schoening will be stepping up to handle the covers and interior art. Issue #1 will have a variant cover by T-Rex Jones, who has worked on covers for both series in the past at IDW.
Be on the lookout for this four-issue event as it releases later in October.
