James Gunn is planning big things for the future of the Guardians of the Galaxy!
[dropcap size=small]I[/dropcap]n the lead-up to the release of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 we have received a lot of news about the future of the Guardians franchise and their place in the Marvel Universe. Recently in a interview with the Toronto Sun, director James Gunn released a little more news about the future of the franchise.
Gunn said that after Guardians 3 the story will end for the current Guardians but in Guardians 4 there would be a new story with a new team.
“I think the first three movies tell a single story and that story is pretty simple I think that there could be a Guardians Vol. 4, but it would not be the same. It would not be the same group… basically the story of this group ends with Vol. 3.”
So who would be on the new team you ask? It would be the original Guardians of the Galaxy from the comic books. This team includes Aleta Ogord (Michelle Yeoh), Charlie-27 (Ving Rhames), Krugarr, Mainframe (Miley Cyrus), Starhawk (Sylvester Stallone), and Martinex (Michael Rosenbaum).
Starhawk and Martinex will both appear in Vol 2 and (spoiler alert) this team will briefly appear towards the end of the film.
James Gunn has said that he expects Sylvester Stallone, Starhawk, to be a large part of the future of franchise as well.
“My plan is to see more of him I’m not sure about him appearing in Vol. 3, we’ll have to see about that, but it’s our plan to see more of Stallone. Kevin (Feige) and I are working on what is going to become of the Marvel Cosmic Universe and where it’s going to go. We plan to see the rest of them in the future.”
The future is looking bright for the Guardians of the Galaxy and it will be interesting to see what happens with the new team!
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will be released in theaters on May 5.
