After years of self-imposed exile, one of Hollywood’s greatest directors is ready to come back.
[dropcap size=small]W[/dropcap]hether or not you know it, you are a fan of Joss Whedon’s work. Did you like the first Avengers film? Yeah, that was directed by Joss Whedon. Do you enjoy the hit tv classics like Firefly or Buffy the Vampire Slayer? Yep, you guessed it, Joss Whedon wrote those shows too. The man has contributed so many great things to our geek culture and sadly just as easily as the media has embraced him they have shamed him as well. Despite all of this, Joss Whedon has returned and he has his eyes set on the ultimate prize: Star Wars.
During his time of isolation Joss Whedon has been busy. The man has been penning a new screenplay that mixes the chaos of World War II with horror. He calls it “a historical fiction slash horror movie about a time when the world was going insane” and it sounds like a nice mix of something new. Hollywood can’t seem to spit out anything more from the horror genre except films based on demonic possession lately and a different horror film outside of that is exciting.
In an interview with Complex, Joss Whedon said he would like to direct several films and Star Wars isn’t the only one. After all, he directed two blockbuster films so why not shoot for the stars?
“So do I want to make James Bond movie? Yeah. Anne Hathaway does Catwoman again? Sure, I’m in. Do I want to make a Star Wars movie? Yeah. I was like, “I don’t want to make a Star Wars movie. Like, god dammit, why?” But I saw the trailer for Rogue awhile ago and I was like, “I want to do that.” To make a Star Wars movie and not be wed to the bigger picture.”
If Joss Whedon wants to direct a Star Wars film, could there be a better man for the job? J.J. Abrams had his shot so why not give Joss Whedon a chance? The man has proven that he has the talent and experience, let him do it.
