But what about Squirrel Girl?!?!
It wasn’t too long ago that we learned hunky buff man Joe Manganiello will be playing the deadly DC assassin Deathstroke in Justice League and the planned solo Batfleck film tentatively titled The Batman.
Since then, Manganiello himself has been lobbying for Anna Kendrick to join him in the DCEU as the Boy Wonder…or Girl Wonder?
Manganiello posted this photo of himself with Kendrick at the Mohegan Sun Casino’s 20th anniversary event.
As the #Robin obviously indicates, Manganiello appears to really want Kendrick to play the Caped Crusader’s sidekick.
While we’ve never had a female Robin on the big screen (we’ve only technically had one, but let’s forget about that), there have been a few girls to don this role in the comics.
In the New 52 Earth-2 continuity, Helena Wayne, daughter of Bruce Wayne and Selina Kyle (Catwoman) was Robin before becoming Huntress. Stephanie Brown, girlfriend of Tim Drake, was very briefly the Girl Wonder, before very briefly becoming Batgirl. The most famous girl Robin though is Carrie Kelley, who appears Frank Miller’s seminal Batman: The Dark Knight Returns.
Back to Kendrick. The actress (coincidentally) portrayed the Robin in a skit with Ben Affleck while promoting The Accountant on MTV, and she seems to be a good fit for the character.
However, there was a great swell of demand for Kendrick to play Marvel’s Squirrel Girl over the summer. Will Anna have to make a decision of a lifetime? The prestige of playing Robin in the DCEU? Or the glory of Squirrel Girl in the MCU?
Neither will probably happen, but just in case, choose wisely Anna, choose wisely.
