I walk the line?
The first trailer for the live-action reboot Power Rangers film finally debuted during New York Comic Con.
Check it out below.
If you were expecting to see the Rangers fight Rita Repulsa, hop into their Zords, or even just wear their suits, you might be a little disappointed, as the trailer mostly focused on establishing the “teenagers with attitude” prior to becoming Rangers, and their initial reactions to receive their Power Coins.
We meet our heroes, Jason (Dacre Montgomery), Billy (R.J. Cyler), Kimberly (Naomi Scott), Trini (Becky G), and Zack (Ludi Lin), who appear in this continuity as troubled teens who meet in a Breakfast Club-esque detention on Saturdays.
The kids eventually meet up and discover the Power Coins that will give them ability to transform into Rangers, but unlike the original series, the coins give them enhanced strength and abilities when not suited-up.
Maybe Jason just got bit by a radioactive spider…
We then get brief snippets of the Rangers discovering their strength, Jason smooching Kimberly, Rita Repulsa attacking Trini, Jason morphing into the Red Ranger for the first time…and a sick guitar riff echoing the original theme.
Despite the original series being super goofy and kid-friendly, this trailer showed us a grittier take on this classic franchise, and we’re intrigued to say the least.
Power Rangers hits theaters on March 24, 2017.
