If only it came with a Hogwarts acceptance letter.
[dropcap size=small]I[/dropcap]f you’ve ever dreamed of living in Harry Potter’s house on 4 Privet Drive, then it’ll cost you a cool £475,000 (roughly $616,500), because that’s exactly how much the real property is currently on the market for (via the Daily Mail).
The home, made famous for being chosen in 2001 to appear in the Philosopher’s Stone as the place which housed Harry’s famous room under the stairs, is actually located in Martins Heron, in Bracknell, Berkshire as opposed to its setting in Surrey in the books.
Privet drive belonged to the Dursely family, but the real home owner is in actual fact Claire Powder, who revealed (via getsurrey) that the house has already attracted a huge amount of interest since it went on sale – thanks in no small part to word spreading on sites such as The LAD Bible:
“It is weird seeing my house on the films,” said Mrs Powder.
“It’s quite surreal how much interest it’s got since it’s gone on the market. We put it up without a ‘For Sale’ sign and didn’t tell our neighbours, as we wanted to keep it hush, but The Lad Bible reported it and people started tagging me in the Facebook post. It’s spiralled since then.”
Whilst the actual house only appeared in the first movie for external shots – after which it was recreated on set – the property is still one of the most recognizable of places, and continues to draw-in fans of the franchise from all over the world.
Apparently the three-bedroom abode has had extensive renovations to help justify the price tag, but by and large the sale price is obviously attributed to its fame.
Yeah. We better start buying those lottery tickets.
If you (like us) can’t afford to shell out for the real deal, you can always just visit the recreated Privet Drive at Warner Bros. Studios.
