The world map of Red Dead Redemption 2 has leaked online! Check it out here!
[dropcap size=small]N[/dropcap]ext year will release the sequel of 2010’s Red Dead Redemption, a very successful game that was released in 2010.
Within the last week, a map was posted on NeoGaf, showing the world map of Red Dead Redemption 2 to those who saw it. The image was taken down, but it was too late because things like this don’t get away from the internet.
A source that works close to the new Red Dead game confirmed that the map is not just a rumor and that it is a “very recent” art direction part of the map for the new game. The source also confirmed that these event will take place before Red Dead Redemption begins and they will be located just east of the events that occurred in the prequel.
Taking a look at the bottom left of the map above, the Great Plains are home of the Blackwater settlement, which is atop the Great Plains settlement. If you look closely at the map below, you will see that the region lacks the amount of railroad tracks, making it seem like it took place earlier in the story.
The new map shows that there will be caravan camps spread out among the West land. The theme of Red Dead Redemption was the “death of the West.” So when making another game, it makes sense to put the timeline before the first game started.
Another part of the map that is most intriguing is located on the bottom right of the map: the New Bordeaux. Mafia 3, which is also published by Take-Two Interactive, will be based off of the New Bordeaux, which is a fictional region in New Orleans. How much crossover there could be between the two games remains to be seen. This could also mean that there will be a few swampy regions in Red Redemption 2. Although the previous game didn’t allow your character to swim, the sequel could give you the ability to swim in the next game.
This isn’t the first time we have heard of another Red Dead game wanting to come out. Two years ago, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick commented on the possibility of a sequel:
“it seems quite obvious that Red Dead is a permanent franchise”.
Rockstar did not comment on this story, but that could be because they are working on Grand Theft Auto 6. So while they haven’t said much about a Red Dead Redemption sequel, we have seen enough to show that this is seriously being considered.
