Everybody get up it’s time to slam now. Again!
It looks like the star of a certain beloved 90’s classic is back for the upcoming sequel.
Warner Bros. has confirmed that former NBA All-Star Michael Jordan will reprise his role as Michael Jordan for Space Jam 2.
“I’m excited to get back at it,” Jordan explained in a press release. “I had a great time working with the Looney Tunes back in the day, so I can’t wait to do it again.”
The film will reportedly see Jordan come out of retirement to once again shoot hoops with the Tune Squad, only this time, he’s facing off again a new opponent: LeBron James.
Apparently, King James has assembled his own team of Looney Tunes, and he wants to challenge Jordan to a game that will determine who truly is the greatest basketball player of all time.
“I’m not scared of James,” said Jordan. “He should be scared of me.”
Besides MJ, most of the original film’s cast is set to return, including Looney Tunes Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, and Larry Bird.
Not confirmed to return yet is Bill Murray. Despite being offered a reported $15 million to costar with Jordan in the film, Murray has yet to officially confirm that he has signed on. For years, there have been numerous rumors that Murray didn’t get along with the Looney Tunes on the set of the first film, leading many to believe Murray is prejudice against them.
It’s hard to imagine a Space Jam film without Murray, so we hope he’ll decide to join.
Space Jam 2 is currently set to film this summer on Moron Mountain, with a tentative release date of summer 2017.
The first Space Jam was a landmark film as well as a cultural phenomenon, and we can’t to see Jordan and Bugs back in action.
