Turner wants her character to follow the trend of the show and get a good death scene!

[dropcap size=small]S[/dropcap]ophie Turner sat down with the folks at the Wall Street Journal last week and discussed all things Sansa Stark in the old and new seasons. In the interview, Turner covered all bases, and said some interesting things about her character and the show as a whole.

One question in particular got a pretty surprising response. Turner was asked how she would ‘wrap up’ her characters story if she was in George R.R Martin’s shoes. Her answer was rather instantaneous and clear-cut:

‘I don’t want her to survive. And I want Littlefinger to end up on the throne.’

That’s quite the statement.  Littlefinger is the moniker given to Petyr Baelish (played by Aidan Gillen), the head of House Baelish, who was the Master of Coin in the small council for King Baratheon. A brothel owned by Baelish, which he often used his advantage, allowed him to gain one of the most powerful commodities in the Game of Thrones world – information.

He has become an increasingly note-worthy character throughout the seasons, with a reputation for manipulation. In season five in particular, Littlefinger develops an interesting relationship with Sansa. He encourages her to ‘stop being a bystander’ and avenge her family as one of the last of her line, by marrying into the Bolton family.

The interviewer was quick to ask why she wants Sansa to meet her demise. Turner explained that Game of Thrones does one thing really well – as we all know – and that’s death scenes. Killing off some of the main characters in some truly imaginative and unexpected ways is a hallmark of the show, so it’s only natural that she, as an actress, wants to get one herself:

‘I think if you’re on Game of Thrones and you don’t have a cool death scene, then what’s the point? I think it would be really disappointing if I got to the end and I was just okay.’

Sansa fans definitely don’t want Turner penning her characters fate anytime soon, then.

Turner also shed some light on Sansa in season six:

‘This season is about her taking charge and being a leader, rather than just like a pawn in someone else’s game. This is a big season for her, she’s really gonna thrive in this season.’

It seems Sansa is set to take Littlefinger’s advice on board.

We last saw her jumping from the rooftop of Winterfell Keep with Theon (also known as ‘Reek’) at the end of season five, escaping the clutches of one of the most sadistic characters in recent TV history, Ramsay Bolton.

It’ll be exciting to see where Sansa’s headed. We really hope we’ll get to see her take some revenge, and show everyone what she’s really made of. Given how much Sansa has been through, it’s about time we see her shine.

You can see the rest of the interview below, where Turner also explains how she believes Game of Thrones is a ‘feminist show,’ and that fans can expect to be delighted and horrified, with more ‘red wedding-esque’ surprises in store.

Sounds like we’ve got an exciting season ahead, doesn’t it! Is it April yet?

Game of Thrones season 6 is due to air 24 April, 2016.
