From the octagon to Outer Space!
[dropcap=small]R[/dropcap]ecently Ronda Rousey indicated her interest in playing Samus Aran in a Metroid film. Ronda Rousey has some film experience with her appearances in Furious 7, Expendables 3, and Entourage. Ronda Rousey has already said that she would be taking time off from fighting so she could devote her time to filming a Metroid film. That being said she has yet to take a starring role in a film. She does have the fighting ability and the looks to be Samus but with her acting chops in question she might not be the best person to take on the iconic role.
That being said a Metroid film would be fantastic and could be a huge hit with it’s large fan base. Getting the right Samus would, of course, be a large part if the film succeeded or not. If a Metroid film was made I would make the case for Scarlett Johansson to be Samus Aran. My reasoning is that she already has played in large roles and has proved to be a badass with her role as Black Widow in the Marvel Universe. I believe that she could play the role and she would do a good job. The only problem with going with such an established actress is that they have been in so many roles that she might not become synonymous with the character. While other actors and actresses have been established and have become one with a character, Ryan Reynolds in Deadpool, it would be hard for Johansson since she is already a captivating Black Widow.
In my opinion, I think the best choice would be Brianna Hildebrand. She is young enough to be able to play Samus through multiple movies, if it was successful enough to get sequels, and she has the acting ability to play a lead role. Her take on Negasonic Teenage Warhead in Deadpool was fantastic, in my opinion. I felt that she captivated the screen when she was on and she held her own when she was alongside Ryan Reynolds in the movie. She also kicked some serious tail as well, which always helps in my book.
A Metroid film has yet to be announced yet so all of this is just speculation and opinion. While some fans have been clamoring for a Metroid film recently, some were even so motivated to make their own short film, there has not been any announcement for a Metroid film. I hope that a studio will pick up Metroid, and take my casting suggestions, so that fans can finally get a movie that is worthy of the character of Samus Aran.
